Purpose

The University provides vacation with pay to any regular staff employee with a full-time equivalent (FTE) of 0.5 or greater. Vacations are to be scheduled at times that are convenient to the department and with consideration of the employee’s preference.

Note: The University encourages an employee to schedule at least five days of vacation leave consecutively, resulting in at least one full week of meaningful time off.

    Purpose

    Recognizing the occurrence(s) of serious health conditions which involve either the University employee or a qualified family member, the University provides unpaid Family Medical leave of up to 12 weeks in a 12 month period.

    Regular staff employees with a full-time equivalent (FTE) of 0.5 or greater and who have accrued a minimum of 66 days of temporary disability leave (TDL) have a conversion option for extra vacation leave or credit toward retirement. It is the intention of this policy to reward loyal, long-time employees who remain healthy as well as to encourage employees to use TDL only when necessary.

    Note: The provisions in the policy are not available for persons retiring who are on Long Term Disability (LTD).

    The University establishes certain regular full-time positions which have scheduled periods during each year when employees do not work. These positions are called “flex leave positions.” Employees in these positions work full-time, at least nine months but less than 12 months per year.

    A regular staff employee, who has successfully completed the new hire orientation period, may be authorized special leave from University employment for reasons other than those normally provided by Human Resources Policy and Procedure (HRP&P). The primary consideration for authorizing a special leave shall be that it serves the best interest of the University.

    The University provides funeral leave with pay, in accordance with this policy, to any regular staff employee with a full-time equivalent (FTE) of 0.5 or greater.

    Definitions
    For purposes of this policy the following definitions shall apply:

    "Day"

    • The number of hours an employee works in a regularly scheduled work week, divided by five.

    The University recognizes certain holidays by closing of all departments and offices except where continuous service is essential.

    Temporary Disability Leave (TDL) is available for regular staff with a full-time equivalent (FTE) of 0.5 or greater. It is the intent of this policy to provide leave for staff who have an illness or injury which prevents them from performing their jobs on a temporary basis, or to care for eligible family members within the guidelines of this policy.

    Definitions
    For purposes of this policy the following definitions shall apply:
    “Sponsored Adult Dependent”

    Any regular staff employee with a full-time equivalent (FTE) of 0.5 or greater, and separating from the University, shall be eligible to receive compensation for accrued vacation leave which is unused at the date of separation, as defined in this policy.
