Acquire the skills, strategies and support to find a happier, healthier you

Meditation and mindfulness have been shown to help people reduce stress, improve focus and sleep more soundly. We are collaborating with UK Student Success to give you free access through March 10, 2025 to an evidence-based app called Headspace. It can improve your mental, emotional and social health. With hundreds of guided exercises for meditation, sleep, focus and movement, Headspace can enhance your daily life.

  • Move Mode: quick workouts and guided cardio for body and mind

Ready to achieve more using the Headspace app?

  1. Request access to the app.
  2. You will be taken to a form. Once you complete the form, you will receive a link by email with instructions to register as a new Headspace user.
  3. Create your Headspace account. You must register before downloading the free Headspace app. At the end of registration, you'll have the opportunity to share with up to five family members. Or, you can go to this page and manage your members. 
  4. Download “Headspace” from the app store of your choice. Be sure to follow steps one through three first so you won't be charged.
  5. Sign into the app using the information from your Headspace account, then follow the prompts.
  6. Begin using the app and learn skills and strategies to help you reduce stress and improve your focus!

What if I already have a Headspace account?

  1. Request free access.
  2. You will be taken to a form. Complete and submit. Once you complete the form, you will receive a link by email with instructions to connect your existing Headspace account.
  3. On the Headspace signup screen, click Log in at the top.
  4. Follow the remaining prompts to activate your free membership through March 10, 2025. You will be asked to verify using your linkblue email address.
  5. Continue using the app to learn skills and strategies to help you reduce stress and improve your focus!

As she retires, Terri Weber reminds caregivers to make sure they take care of themselves

As they say, all good things must come to an end. I want to let you know that I will be retiring from UK as of Oct. 3. It has been my privilege and honor to work with you, the UK caregivers, throughout the last 14 years. Now it’s time for me to turn to a new chapter. But UK Elder Care will continue.  I will assist in the transition, continuing to provide individual consultations on a limited basis and co-facilitating Care Group with Ann Bassoni, UK Mental Health Therapist, until a new hire is confirmed.

Annual period for employees to convert temporary disability leave to vacation leave now available through April 30

The annual period for University of Kentucky employees to convert their temporary disability leave (TDL) to additional vacation leave (VL) is now available through April 30.   Employees may request conversion of TDL hours to additional vacation leave through Employee Self Service in myUK. Employees should log into myUK, access Employee Self Service and select Working Time and Leave Requests.

Boredom is a warning sign for caregivers

Caring for an older loved one can become tedious, monotonous and dull. And the everyday mundane tasks can take a toll on a caregiver’s emotional, mental, and physical health. Boredom can make you feel sad, tired, hopeless and irritable. These can be caused by a decrease in mental stimulation or a lack of control over your daily life. Boredom is a warning sign, telling us that something is wrong.

Use these tips to help reduce your stress over the holidays

A popular holiday song starts “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” but is it really? For many caregivers, the holidays are a time of increased stress and overwhelming challenge. Aside from our usual day-to-day responsibilities of work, family and caregiving, we now have the added demands of the merriest and brightest season. Many caregivers just want the whole thing to be done with. Something’s gotta give! How can we have more joy and fewer upsets this season? Here are six ideas to help you enjoy the holidays.
