Where you set up your home office space matters. If possible, apply these three tips:

  1. Designate a specific place for your work.
    This allows you to leave your work behind at the end of the day. A room with a door is ideal.
     
  2. Use a surface — any surface is better than none.
    For the best ergonomics, your elbows should rest comfortably at a 90-degree angle with your shoulders relaxed. Usually, kitchen tables are too tall.
     
  3. Find a spot with enough light but not too much that it causes glare.
    If you're near a window, sit perpendicular to it or close the blinds. No windows? Task lighting angled behind your screen reduces the stark contrast of your bright screen with a dark room.

Injuries while working remotely

A dedicated space to work helps prevent injuries. Take some time to set up a workspace that's comfortable and free of tripping hazards.

If you are injured while working remotely, the protocol is the same as if you were on-site.

For serious and life-threatening injuries, immediately call 911.
