Work location News, tips and tools for remote and hybrid workers
A work location workgroup was charged with researching, exploring ideas and providing recommendations on how work location can support our efforts to advance our state and those we serve. As a residential campus, we must continue to focus on how we can best evolve to meet the needs of our community and fulfill our mission to teach, heal, discover and serve.

University leaders conducted a review of all campus staff positions to determine which positions are eligible for remote or hybrid work. A request form is now available under Employee Self Service in myUK for staff in eligible campus positions to request a remote or hybrid work arrangement. View instructions on how to complete the form.
All campus staff wishing to begin or maintain a remote or hybrid work arrangement must submit this form by September 1. A full review of requests may take several weeks to complete. Staff may continue their current work arrangement until they receive a final decision on this request. If a decision results in a change to a current work arrangement, staff will have approximately 30 days to transition to their new arrangement.

Frequently asked questions
I have a previously approved remote or hybrid work agreement currently in place. Do I need to submit a new request for a remote or hybrid work arrangement?
Yes, all campus staff intending to begin or maintain a remote or hybrid work arrangement must submit this request form in myUK by September 1, 2023. Anyone working remote or hybrid who has not submitted a request by September 1 will be in violation of the work location guidelines. A full review of requests may take several weeks to complete. Staff may continue their current work arrangement until they receive a final decision on this request. If a decision results in a change to a current work arrangement, staff will have approximately 30 days to transition to their new arrangement.
I work in a UK HealthCare area. Do I need to make a request to work a hybrid or remote schedule?
As previously stated by President Capilouto, UK HealthCare will maintain separate guidelines, which will be launched at a later date.

When revised work location guidelines are implemented, how quickly will they take effect?
The guidelines took effect September 1, 2023. Any staff in a position eligible for remote or hybrid work must submit a request.
I am a supervisor with a new hire in a position well suited for remote or hybrid work. What process should I follow?
If the position was filled as of May 1, 2023, the position should already have an eligibility status attached to it.
If you need to update the eligibility status, or set an eligibility status for a position created or filled after May 1, 2023, you can work with your business officer to note the eligibility in the position description. These updates can be made similar to any other position description update by working with HR Compensation and Employment.

Can UK employees work remotely outside of the United States?
Remote work outside of the United States will not be approved.
