A work location workgroup was charged with researching, exploring ideas and providing recommendations on how work location can support our efforts to advance our state and those we serve. As a residential campus, we must continue to focus on how we can best evolve to meet the needs of our community and fulfill our mission to teach, heal, discover and serve.

Work Location Guidelines for campus staff positions are linked below. The next step in this process is for university leadership to determine position eligibility. Then, those in campus staff positions deemed eligible by leadership to request remote or hybrid work will be able to do so through myUK. UK HealthCare will maintain separate guidelines.

Remote or hybrid work

Leaders will determine which positions in their areas are eligible for remote or hybrid work. Only employees in positions determined to be eligible will then have access to a form in myUK to submit a remote or hybrid work request. That form will be available later this spring.

Additional resources in development including multi-state employment guidance and other training.

Frequently asked questions

I have a previously approved remote or hybrid work agreement currently in place. Do I need to submit a new request for a remote or hybrid work arrangement?

No, not at this time. Information is forthcoming on new processes for requesting, or renewing, remote and hybrid work arrangements for positions determined eligible by University leadership.

I work in a UK HealthCare area. Do I need to make a request to work a hybrid or remote schedule?

As previously stated by President Capilouto, UK HealthCare will maintain separate guidelines, which will be launched at a later date.

If you work in a UK HealthCare area, please complete this form to request a remote or hybrid work arrangement.

When revised work location guidelines are implemented, how quickly will they take effect?

While guidelines are available, we are now in the position eligibility phase in which University leadership determines which positions are eligible to request hybrid and/or remote work. Once this phase is complete, those in positions deemed eligible for remote or hybrid work will be able to request it through myUK. Then, on a date to be determined by university leadership, the work location guidelines will go into effect. More information on this process is forthcoming. We encourage you to reach out to your supervisor for any questions.

I am a supervisor with a new hire in a position well suited for remote or hybrid work. What process should I follow?

The current and established process remains in place. Supervisors of new or transfer hires should seek approval of the remote or hybrid work location through their respective member of the President’s cabinet. This process can be achieved through email communication while we are working toward a more streamlined process in the coming months.

Once approval is obtained, the employee should enter a remote work address in myUK until the new process is available. You can view this guide to updating your address.

Additional information will be provided, including details of the process change(s) in the coming weeks.

What if I have questions about position eligibility and/or the guidelines?

If you have questions related to position eligibility and/or guidelines, please talk to your supervisor.

Can UK employees work remotely outside of the United States?

Remote work outside of the United States will not be approved.
