Student vision plan
For the first time ever, the University of Kentucky is offering a voluntary vision insurance plan to students through Aetna. Not all services are covered, however Aetna will assist with payments of exams, contact lenses and frames.
Understanding UK's Student Vision Plan
This vision insurance plan includes a list of exclusions and limitations. Plan features and availability may vary by location and are subject to change. The plan does not cover: special vision procedures, such as orthoptics, vision therapy or vision training; vision services or supplies that do not meet professionally accepted standards; plano (nonprescription) lenses; nonprescription sunglasses; two pair of glasses in lieu of bifocals; medical and/or surgical treatment of the eyes; cosmetic services; lost or broken lenses, frames, glasses or contact lenses.
Participating in this student vision plan does not mean all of your vision care is free. There are expenses you are responsible to pay, including an annual deductible or co-pay charges, and costs related to services limited or excluded by the insurance plan.
It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with this plan. The best way to make this coverage (or any vision plan) work for you is to be informed and proactive. Read the policy online and contact the Student Benefits office with your questions.
