Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Voucher Program
Jump start your health with weekly, locally grown, high-quality produce!
Vouchers are available now! Register on the wellness dashboard to claim a $100 or $200 CSA voucher, receive fresh produce weekly and support local farms!
What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is like a subscription to a farm. CSA shareholders purchase a share of a farm’s harvest before the season starts and commit to being a shareholder for the entire designated season. In return, shareholders will receive a weekly box or bag of vegetables and sometimes fruit and herbs as well.
The UK HR Health and Wellness CSA Voucher program helps you make the best choice for you and your family. As a participant in this program, employees* and retirees** on a UK health plan receive either $100 or $200 vouchers that reduce (or discount) the cost of a CSA share from one of our partner farms.
How to sign up for a CSA share
See below step-by-step instructions for how to claim your voucher to discount a purchase of a CSA Share through one of our partner farms.
- Check your eligibility. Employees and retirees on a UK health insurance plan are eligible to participate. Not sure if you are eligible? Contact healthandwellness@lifecycle.uky.edu
- Research CSA options with our partner farms. Choose which farm and share size you want. This will determine which voucher you claim in the next step. Not all farms offer more than one size.
- Claim a voucher on your Health and Wellness dashboard. Select $100 for a small share or $200 for a regular or XL share. You'll receive an email with a voucher code to use on the farm's website.
- Sign up for a share with your preferred partner farm on their website. Follow the signup instructions. You'll also find their instructions and contact information below.
- Use the voucher code you received in your email when you check out on the partner farm’s website. If you are combining vouchers, see the special instructions at the bottom of each partner farm’s sign-up instructions below or see our FAQ’s before you pay for your share.
- Include your LinkBlue ID before you check out.
- Pay the remaining share balance. Review the farm's payment options and make payments accordingly. The voucher does not cover the full cost of a CSA share.
Benefits of CSA membership
By becoming a CSA member, you will have the opportunity to get to know your local farmers and learn more about where your food comes from while you enjoy a box of local vegetables on a weekly basis.
As a participant in the voucher program, you can:
- Save money
- Incorporate more vegetables into your diet
- Access high-quality produce
- Enjoy convenient pickup at a location of your choice or have it delivered directly to you
- Enjoy seasonal tips, recipes and storage information for your produce

Frequently asked questions
What is a voucher?
The voucher pays for a portion of a CSA share from one of our partner farms. It does not cover the entire purchase price. Vouchers are offered in $100 and $200 amounts to be used accordingly toward the purchase of the corresponding share size.
- The $100 voucher can be used for the following sizes ONLY. Mini, Small, Peck. Not all farms offer a small size, so if you are in a smaller household of 1-2 people, please take this into account.
- The $200 voucher can be used for the following sizes ONLY. Half, Medium, Large, Regular, Half bushel, Full, Abundant, Extra-large, XL, Bushel, Robust. Essentially, you may use this voucher on any share. EXCEPT the smallest size offered by the farm. Cleav's Family Market, Hickory Grove Farm, University of Kentucky Organic Farming Unit and Magney Legacy Ridge Farm have one single share size. You can only use the $200 voucher toward shares from these farms. Be sure to claim the $200 voucher on your dashboard if you wish to partner with these farms.
You may only use the voucher toward the purchase of a share from one of our partner farms and only for the share size for which it is intended. The voucher has no cash value.
If you choose the wrong voucher for your needs, please email healthandwellness@lifecycle.uky.edu to initiate a voucher swap.
How long does a CSA typically last?
Farms provide weekly farm shares throughout the Kentucky growing season of spring-fall. The duration and start/end dates vary by farm. Generally, an 18-22 week duration and May-October timeframe is common for our 2026 participating farms. When you become a CSA member, your farm will communicate this necessary information to you.
CSA vouchers offered through this UK HR Health and Wellness program are for a share of vegetables with one of our partner farms for the entire season. A CSA is a mutual commitment between a farm and its shareholders/members, and shareholders that use a UK HR Health and Wellness voucher are signing up for the entire farm season with the farm of their choice and committing to paying the remaining balance for the share (after the voucher) for the CSA growing season.
What is included in a weekly CSA share?
Shares vary based on the farm and the time of year. Farms grow various crops and each week different produce items are growing into and out of maturity. Many farms show examples of past shares on their websites and social media platforms. Please keep in mind that each CSA season can be different depending on several variables such as heat, rain, soil and labor, although every farm aims to deliver the highest quality weekly shares possible.
How much food is included in a weekly CSA share?
The quantity of produce in each CSA share varies by farm and by week. The average weekly share will offer a seasonal variety of items (5-9 in a small/mini share and 6-12 in a large/regular share). An "item" is sometimes a bunch, bundle or bag amount, not just a singular vegetable. Typically, a regular/full/large share is designed to supply two adults or a small household with most of their weekly produce needs, while a small/mini share is designed to supplement weekly produce needs for one to two adults. If you are new to CSA and unsure which size to choose, we recommend choosing a smaller share, as you can always supplement at a farmers market or buy more items to be added if your farm offers online shopping. We strongly suggest that you read the farm profiles on our CSA main page as well the individual farms’ websites to help you make the decision that is right for you.
How much does a CSA cost?
The cost of a CSA varies by farm and by the size of the share. Typically, without a voucher, the cost of a regular share ranges from about $540 to $1,238.40 (before the discount of $200 with voucher use), and a small share is about $350 to $921.60 (before the discount of $100 with voucher use).
Note that share size and price also depend on the number of weeks offered, and some farms have membership options with more than 20 weeks. If you want more information on pricing, or weekly value, reach out to the farm directly.
Why become a CSA member?
A CSA offers several unique benefits:
- You will experience the diversity of locally grown fresh produce.
- You get to know your farmer and how your food is grown. Some farms offer members-only access to tours, events and u-picks. If that access is important to you, you can choose your farm accordingly!
- Many farms offer customization features such as the ability to pause your share and either swap items in your share or buy more as needed.
- Farms offer many different pickup locations. You can choose the location that is right for you. You keep your food dollars in your community.
What happens if there is crop failure or bad weather?
CSA is a mutual commitment between a farm and its shareholders/members. CSA members share in the rewards of a great season and the risks that come with bad weather and pests. Participating farmers have been growing food for many seasons, and they typically grow a variety of crops. This decreases the likelihood that all crops will be ruined from a pest or weather problem, but be sure to read your farm’s CSA membership agreement to learn more about their individual policies and procedures.
Who is eligible for a voucher?
Employees and retirees on a UK health insurance plan are eligible to claim a voucher.
How do I get the voucher?
You can claim your CSA voucher by signing on to your Health and Wellness Dashboard and clicking on the CSA banner at the top of the page. If you do not see a CSA banner, you are likely not eligible for the voucher program. If you have questions about eligibility, please contact healthandwellness@lifecycle.uky.edu.
Vouchers can first be claimed beginning Thursday, January 22, at 8 a.m. The voucher claiming period ends Friday, April 10, at 4 p.m.
How do I use my voucher?
A voucher must first be claimed by an eligible employee or retiree through the HR Health and Wellness dashboard. Vouchers are available to claim beginning at 8 a.m. on January 22 with the voucher claiming period ending Friday, April 10 at 4 p.m. The last day to redeem a voucher with a farm is Sunday, April 12 at 11:59 p.m.
I claimed the voucher. How do I use it?
Once you log on to your UK HR Wellness Dashboard and claim your voucher, you will receive an email with a voucher code and a link. The link will take you to our voucher program page where you can learn more about your choices of partner farms. Once you have made your farm choice, please click the blue box in the profile of your selected farm that reads “learn more and purchase a CSA share”. On the farm’s share purchase page, please use your voucher code as well as your UK linkblue ID to purchase your CSA share. If you do not use both the voucher code and the linkblue ID at the time of purchase, your voucher will not be applied, and your purchase will not be discounted. If you have questions regarding using your chosen farm’s purchase page, you can return to our voucher program page to access detailed purchase instructions for each farm under the individual farms’ profiles.
If you do not receive the email with the voucher code and link, please check your spam folder. If it is not in your spam folder and you are checking the email account that you used to claim the voucher, please email healthandwellness@lifecycle.uky.edu for assistance.
The $100 voucher can be used for the following sizes ONLY. Mini, Small, Peck. Essentially, these are the smallest sizes offered by the farm.
The $200 voucher can be used for the following sizes ONLY. Half, Medium, Large, Regular, Half bushel, Full, Abundant, XL, Bushel Robust. Essentially, you may use this voucher on any share EXCEPT the smallest size offered by the farm.
Cleav’s Family Market, UK Organic Farming Unit (South Farm), Rains and Sun Hilltop Farm and Hickory Grove Farm, and Magney Legacy Ridge Farm have a single share size. You can only use the $200 voucher toward this share. Be sure to choose the $200 voucher if you want to partner with any of these farms.
Is claiming the voucher the same as purchasing a CSA share?
No. Claiming a voucher is not the same as purchasing a share and does not reserve a share for you with a farm. You must use the voucher toward the purchase of a share with the farm of your choice. If you do not use the voucher by April 13, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. your voucher will be forfeited. If you claim a voucher and do not use it to purchase a share, you will not be charged or taxed. If you do purchase a share, you are responsible for paying the balance of the share cost after the voucher is applied, and the amount of the voucher will show as taxable income on your pay stub.
Can I combine my voucher with my spouse's voucher toward the purchase of one share?
The following must be true for two individuals to be eligible to combine vouchers toward the purchase of one share. Both individuals (employee/employee, retiree/retiree or employee/retiree):
- Must be eligible to claim a voucher (i.e. employees and retirees on a UK health insurance plan).
- Are on two separate and independent UK medical health insurance plans (Note: spouses or partners who are on the same health insurance plan cannot claim two vouchers; only one voucher available per health insurance plan.)
- These same two individuals are married or listed as sponsored dependents for each another on myUK.
If you and your spouse or sponsored dependent fit all these criteria, email Erica DiMartino at eldimartino@uky.edu to confirm eligibility. In your email, include both individuals' full names and linkblue IDs. Do not attempt to purchase your combined CSA share before contacting Erica. Once you have been confirmed to combine vouchers, by Erica, you will get instructions on how to purchase your CSA through the farm of your choice or review sign up instructions included in the farm's information above, and review the steps under *NOTE* at the bottom.
My friend and I both work at UK. Can we split a share?
Only two individuals (employee/employee, retiree/retiree, or employee/retiree) who are on two separate and independent UK medical health insurance plans AND are married or listed as sponsored dependents for one another may combine their vouchers to purchase one share. You can, of course, split a share with whoever you like, and they do not need to work at UK. It would be important and necessary, however, to buy your share using the name of an employee so that the single voucher is applied appropriately. Otherwise, you may not receive the discount correctly.
Can my friend/colleague/co-worker/family member give me their voucher?
No. Vouchers are non-transferable and must be in the name of the eligible employee or retiree (the one covered by the UK health insurance plan).
When will the voucher show up on my paycheck as taxable income?
The voucher will appear as taxable income on your pay stub (Taxable Fr - CSA voucher) in either March or May, depending on when you use the voucher for purchase.
Will I be charged any money if I claim the voucher but don’t buy a share?
If you claim a voucher but don’t use it to purchase a share, you will not be taxed or charged.
