UK Expects:
- During the application process, you are required to self-disclose any felony convictions or current felony charges. Failure to do so may result in your disqualification from future employment at the University of Kentucky.
- Should you falsify your application by neglecting to disclose a criminal conviction or providing incorrect employment, licensure/certification or education information, you may be disqualified from employment for any position at the University of Kentucky permanently.
What to expect from UK:
- The hiring official clarifies during a job offer: “As you may be aware from the application process, your employment for this position is contingent upon your undergoing a routine national criminal background check screening process. Should a national criminal background check reveal an adverse event—as determined by UK Human Resources—your employment offer may be withdrawn; consideration is given to recency as well as job-relatedness to the position you are being offered.
- You are contacted (via a phone call or e-mail) by the Pre-employment Screening Service Center, in order to facilitate your appearance to fill out some additional paperwork. If you are not in Lexington—or cannot make it to campus—the forms can be e-mailed, faxed or shipped overnight to your location. The paperwork consists of a Disclosure and Approval Form, which gathers information otherwise not tracked by Human Resources.
- After the forms are completed and returned to PES Service Center, the background check begins, generally taking two to three days.
Passed Screen: When the screen is completed without any issues, you will receive a phone call from the hiring official for the position for which you interviewed. Welcome to the University of Kentucky!
Failed Screen: In the case of an adverse event causing your job offer to be withdrawn, be aware that this does not necessarily exclude you from other opportunities at the University of Kentucky. The only exception to this statement would be if you neglected to disclose prior felonies during the application process, which may disqualify you from employment for any position at the University of Kentucky.
