Working out(side) safely
Now that the weather is warming up, it's time to get out and enjoy the weather. Exercising outdoors can be a great change of pace in your regular exercise routine, offering new perspectives and fresh variety. There are endless outdoor activities:
- Walking
- Hiking
- Swimming
- Trips to the zoo or outdoor festivals
- Water skiing
- Yoga
Just to name a few. So, if you are taking your workout outside, be sure to keep the following handy:
- Sunscreen-for all exposed skin.
- Water bottle-staying hydrated is important year round, but especially when you may be sweating more than usual.
- Hat/Visor-to block the sun from your eyes, but also protect your face from sunburn.
- Layers for clothing-As you warm up, wear layers you can take off to stay cool. Use fast drying fabric to cover skin.
- Bug spray-mosquitos and ticks can carry diseases, so do your best to keep them at bay.
- High visibility options-if you are going to be outside at night, make sure to wear reflective clothing or use a flashing light to alert motorists and others of your presence.
