Bluegrass Beats Step Challenge
Lace up and hit the road for our next Well at UK Steps Challenge: Bluegrass Beats!
As you log your steps, you’ll journey across Kentucky—exploring the hometown roots of some of the Commonwealth’s most iconic musicians.
From the birthplace of bluegrass with Bill Monroe in Rosine to the soulful sounds of Chris Stapleton in Lexington, each step connects you to the stories, traditions and communities that shaped these legendary artists. Along the way, you’ll “visit” cities like Louisville, Pikeville and Maysville—discovering the rich musical heritage that makes Kentucky truly unique.
Whether you're walking your neighborhood, hitting the treadmill or exploring campus, every step counts as you move across the state and connect with the rhythm of Kentucky.
Step into the music. Step across Kentucky.
Goal: Reach 210,000 steps or more during the month of June.
Sync your steps from June 1 to June 30. Complete the challenge, and you’ll be entered into a raffle for one of five $500 cash prizes!
Consider trying a simple walking focus each week:
- Week 1: Walking for stress relief
Short walks can help create space between meetings, reduce tension and offer a mental reset during busy days. - Week 2: Walking + nature
When possible, take movement outdoors. Walking in green spaces has added benefits for mood and clarity. On campus, places like the UK Arboretum offer calm paths for fresh air, reflection and time to connect with nature. - Week 3: Walking With others
Walking can also be a chance to connect. Invite a co‑worker for a walking meeting, take a stroll with friends or family or go for a walk with your spouse or kids. - Week 4: Walking as self‑care
Reframe walking as time just for you—no productivity goals required. A quiet walk, mindful breathing or simply noticing your surroundings can be enough.
