As generative AI technologies continue to develop in striking and volatile ways, leaders strive to stay current not only on AI's technical capabilities but also on the larger issues, challenges and opportunities that inform their approach to culture and strategy in their organizations. This session will address what leaders need to know about the current state and future directions of generative AI technologies as well as strategies for staying current and identifying strategic opportunities to leverage AI in productive and beneficent ways.

Led by Trey Conatser, PhD

Trey Conatser, PhD, serves as UK's assistant provost for teaching and learning and director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT). In these roles he advances educational excellence at UK through collaboration with faculty, staff and students, partnerships with academic and administrative units, and leadership on the challenges, opportunities and issues impacting teaching and learning in higher education. Trey has given over 100 talks, workshops and other presentations on generative AI, and he has contributed to coverage of generative AI in higher education in Forbes, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed and The Atlantic. He co-chairs UK ADVANCE, the committee charged with maintaining guidance around the use of generative AI in educational, research and clinical care contexts. Trey holds a PhD in English with a specialization in digital humanities, writing studies, and teaching and learning from The Ohio State University and has taught courses in writing studies, digital humanities, literature and instructional development, most recently as an affiliate in UK's Department of Writing, Rhetoric and Digital Studies and next semester as an affiliate for the UK Gaines Center for the Humanities.
