Elder care workshop on medications and aging
Seniors are at the highest risk of experiencing medication related problems, and even being hospitalized due to medication mishaps. As we age, it is more likely that we will need to take medications, sometimes more than one. It is estimated that 40% of seniors in the U.S. take five or more different medications on a regular basis, which increases the risk of side effects and interactions. It is, therefore, important to understand not only our medical conditions, but also the medications we take to address them to minimize the risks while maximizing the benefits.
Presenter: Dr. Daniela Moga, MD, PhD, FISPE UK College of Pharmacy, UK College of Public Health and UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. Dr. Moga will discuss topics related to medication appropriateness and will provide recommendations for promoting safety and independence for your loved one.
