Presentation on sensory systems and dementia

Over time, the five senses can change for a person living with dementia. These changes can affect their behavior, their ability to communicate and their relationship with us. Dr. Elizabeth Rhodus, a clinical occupational therapist and researcher at UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, will discuss the various sensory systems and how sensation and perception are altered with the onset of cognitive impairment. She will also give us tips for how we can improve our communication style with our loved ones — tips we can start using right now.
