UK Supervisor Solutions | April 2013

Dear Colleague,

As we send this issue, UK's annual Benefits Open Enrollment period (April 22 - May 10) is already underway. Benefits are a vital part of UK's total compensation package, so I encourage you and your staff to visit the Open Enrollment website to review all options available. If you or your team have questions about UK benefits, please email us at benefits@email.uky.edu.

Where this month's newsletter is concerned, our featured article takes a look at the challenges - and opportunities - of managing multi-generational teams. We also take time for an often-overlooked but vitally important role our supervisors often play in providing valuable work experience for UK students: The annual UK Student Employee of the Year Award recognizes both outstanding students and the exceptional supervisors who bring their accomplishments to light. Finally, check out our Super adVisor feature offers some strategies to help you avoid "massive" mistakes in the hiring process.

As always, we appreciate any feedback or questions.

Kim Wilson, Chief Human Resources Officer
University of Kentucky

This Month's Featured Article: Managing Generational Differences

If you don't think generation makes a difference, think of this example. When asked to recall how and where Kennedy died, the Matures and Baby Boomers would say gunshots in Dallas, Texas; Generation X and Y might remember a plane crash near Martha's Vineyard, Mass.; and Generation Z might say, "Kennedy who?" Click here to learn how differences like these can have impacts into our daily department routines.
