Leaders and followers form around a common purpose. The most capable followers in the world will fail if they gripe about their leaders but don’t help them improve. During this workshop, based on Ira Chaleff’s, The Courageous Follower: Standing Up To and For Our Leaders, we will explore the dynamics of the leader-follower relationship and present a model of how courageous followers can improve that relationship to benefit themselves, their leaders and the organization.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify the dimensions of following courageously.
- Assume responsibility.
- Initiate action to make improvements.
- Stay alert for areas in which their strengths complement the leaders and assert themselves in those areas.
- Give voice to discomfort when they feel behaviors or policies conflict with their sense of what is right.
- Separate from the leader and the group when necessary.
